Two Weeks Old

We took Hudson for his 2 week check up yesterday. He still didn't like being stripped down and placed on the scale, but we were happy to find out that he's gaining weight and now weighs in at 7 lbs. 3 oz! Just when we thought we'd gotten him settled down, the nurse came in to do his blood test. Wow...he definitely has a set of lungs on him. He cried and cried and cried....and it broke my heart. The nurse tried to work as fast as she could, but Hudson loves to kick his feet...especially when he's upset, so it took a little longer than it should have. I can't even begin to imagine what it's going to be like when he gets his shots! Trey said he thought it hurt me more than it hurt Hudson. Probably true. Anyway- we don't go back again until his 2 month appt.
Some friends of mine suggested that I get a book called, "Mom's On Call" to help Hudson adjust to a schedule. I just got it in the mail today, so we'll see how it works out. More to come on that.....
Here are some pics over the last week.

1st Bath

We gave Hudson his first "sponge" bath the other day. He didn't like it so much. Hopefully, this will get easier and he'll enjoy his bath time soon. I'm sure it will be much better once his umbilical cord "mushroom" falls off and his circumcision heals. That can't feel too great!

1st Week Home

The first week has been quite interesting. Hudson is eating good, but he has his days and nights mixed up. The first night home from the hospital was pretty bad. I don't think I got more than 2 hours of sleep that night. Trey's been a big help though and is always willing to take him for awhile so I can get a couple of hours of sleep. Hopefully, he'll get this figured out pretty soon. It's getting better, but he still loves to be wide awake between the hours of 11pm - 2am.
We weren't sure exactly who he looked like until I got out my baby book the other day. This boy is a spitting image of me when I was a baby! The similarities are unreal. Let's just hope he doesn't get my height!!! :)

Hudson's personality is already starting to show...is that possible? He smiles at us all the time and makes the cutest facial expressions. He's a strong baby too! He's already raising his head up off of our shoulders when we hold him and he keeps trying to roll over. He absolutely hates having his arms tucked into his blankets and tells us so if we ever try that. He's constantly moving those little arms and kicking his legs. And he loves to be held....ALL the time! We're so in love with this child and just can't get enough of him!

1st Doctors Appointment

Friday, March 13, 2009 | | 0 comments
We took Hudson to his first doctor's appointment on Friday the 13th. He was not happy about being there at all. He weighed in at 6lbs. 1.5oz., so he's lost about 6.5 oz. since he was born. The doctor said that this is normal and that he should be back up to his birth weight at his 2 week appointment. Suzi recommended Dr. M to us and we really like him! He has a great bedside manner and handles Hudson perfectly. He also lives in our neighborhood, so that's good to know too!

Trey getting Hudson stripped down to his diaper for the weigh-in....Hudson is NOT happy about it.

And he's really not happy here!

Back in his snuggly carseat and sounds asleep

Car ride home from the hospital

Well, we discovered that Hudson loves his carseat and loves to ride in the car. He slept soundly the whole ride home!

Lots of Visitors at the hospital

We had lots and lots of visitors at the hospital wanting to meet Hudson. Here are a few pics. Thanks so much to everyone who came to visit and for all of the beautiful flowers and gifts!

Hudson

Hudson was born on March 8, 2009 at 2.01pm in the afternoon. He was 6lbs. 8oz. and 19.5" long. He came out with a full head of hair as you can see in the pictures below. We had quite an experience during the birth. I started having contractions on Saturday (the 7th) afternoon, but they went away after I layed on the couch for a little while. We were scheduled to go to dinner with some friends and then to a surprise birthday party for Maggie. I told Trey that I thought we should go ahead and do what we planned since I was feeling fine and the contractions had seemed to subside. Everything went fine that evening and we had a lot of fun hanging out with our friends...plus, Maggie was definitely surprised! Trey and I left the party around 10.30pm. I woke up at 3.30AM having contractions again. I started timing them and finally woke Trey up at 5.30AM when they were about 10 minutes apart. By the time we got to the hospital, they were 7 minutes apart. We got all checked in and called my parents, Trey's parents and Erin & Perry. Unfortunately, we learned that my dr. wasn't on call!! I was so disappointed about that. But, the nurse that we had was awesome! Her name was Danita and she couldn't have been nicer and she was so good about explaining everything to us as we went through this whole process. To make a long story short, I ended up having to have an emergency C-section because Hudson's heart rate started going wild about half way through the labor. We could see on the monitor that his little heart rate would go down to 62 and then sky rocket to 200. He was obviously in distress. We also learned that he wasn't turned properly...he was "sunny side up". Dr. P (whom I'd never met before) made the decision after about 6 hours of labor. By this time, I'd already had an epidural and some other pain meds, so I was pretty doped up. I'm thankful for that because I really would have been stressed out had I known exactly what was going on. Thankfully, Hudson was just fine and we welcomed a healthy baby boy at 2.01pm on Sunday! Trey's exact words to me when he held his baby boy for the first time were: "Why in the world did we wait 10 years to do this?!?!?" We are so blessed and so in love with this little guy
